33-year-old woman stabbed to death

An unknown man broke into a house in Sakinaka and brutally murdered a 33-year-old housewife in front of her eight-month-old daughter on Saturday evening.

An unknown man broke into a house in Sakinaka and brutally murdered a 33-year-old housewife in front of her eight-month-old daughter on Saturday evening. A neighbour saw the alleged murderer while he was fleeing the place. Robbery has been ruled out and personal rivalry is being seen as a motive. A FIR has been registered and the hunt is on to find the accused.

According to Sakinaka police, the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm at Krishna Nagar on 90 feet road in Sakinaka, Andheri (east). The deceased, Pawandevi Das, used to live there with her husband and an eight-month-old daughter. Her husband, Belat Das, a worker in a garment factory, was at work when the incident occurred.

The murderer apparently knew Mr Das’ work timings. He stabbed Pawandevi three times on her neck. She was declared dead upon admission to Rajawadi Hospital. No valuables were stolen from the house which is why Sakinaka police believe the murder occurred over some personal enmity. An FIR has been registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Since it is a slum, there is no CCTV surveillance. An official said no previous police complaints have been registered by the deceased. It is not clear whether the accused is from the neighbourhood or an unknown person.

The Sakinaka police have recorded the statements of her husband. The couple was living there on rent. The police have also recorded statements of their landlord. The officials are trying to find out if her husband or she had a quarrel or a fight with anyone in the past. -"Till now we have two eye-witnesses. We have the description of the accused.” said an official.
