The Mankhurd police has arrested three of a gang of eunuchs for allegedly attacking a team of on-duty police officers including constables. A constable received a head injury after eunuchs began pelting stones at the officers.
According to the Mankhurd police, some eunuchs were creating a nuisance near Mankhurd and Sion T junction.
The Mankhurd police received complaints from commuters that eunuchs had looted them. “After 11 or 12 pm, these eunuchs dress very well and stand near signals among other places. They stop cars and make drivers open their windows. Once the windows are opened, they grab the keys of the cars and take hold of the victims’ gold, cash and valuables. When police patrol the area, they hide themselves,” a police office said.
Senior police inspector of the Mankhurd police station Nasir Sheikh said, “We were on to these eunuchs for the past few days. On Thursday, we got a call from the control room about eunuchs stopping traffic near the Sion-Panvel T junction. After two days, our night duty officer caught a few of them. But while the operation was on, they threw stones on our police officers and one of them — Nandkumar Salunkhe — got seriously injured.”
A beat marshal was called to the spot and later a police van too arrived. Seeing this, a group of eunuchs ran away and took refuge inside bushes from where they pelted stones.
Mr Sheikh said, “We have arrested three eunuchs for attacking our staff. They were booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code including rioting sections. Eunuchs are a big problem here. Many a time we took action against them but they always create problems for local residents. In January this group looted people at the Vashi toll naka too.”
