Thane’s anti-human trafficking cell arrested three persons, including a woman, during a raid for their alleged involvement in trafficking girls.

Thane’s anti-human trafficking cell arrested three persons, including a woman, during a raid for their alleged involvement in trafficking girls. The police has rescued a 16-year-old girl who the accused forced into prostitution.

The anti-human trafficking cell arrested 47-year-old Dipali Haldar during the raid for forcing the 16-year-old girl into prostitution. Officials said that during interrogation the girl revealed Haldar forced her into the flesh trade to make ends meet.

The girl, who lives in Thane, is the oldest child in the family. Her father passed away two years ago in an accident and her mother has been responsible for the family of four children. According to the police, the girl said in her statement that Haldar would visit her home often and was a family friend. She came in contact with the girl’s family through a neighbour.

When the girl narrated her eagerness to help her mother, Haldar promised to help. Haldar would then visit the girl when she was alone at home and encourage her to wear dresses and makeup. She told the girl that it was necessary to find a job as a receptionist or airhostess.

The police said, “Haldar trained the girl and then took her to a bar near Kalyan on January 2. The girl was awkward when she entered the bar. Later, Haldar took her to a room and told her to get ready. The alert girl found Haldar’s behaviour fishy, and told her she wanted to go downstairs to fetch her cellphone. The girl then hid in a storeroom. After much searching, Haldar caught hold of the girl and told her to satisfy a customer. Five minutes later the police reached the spot and rescued the girl.”

The anti-human trafficking cell of the Thane crime branch, along with an NGO, had received a tip of illegal activities in the bar near Kalyan-Ambernath road and raided the premises on January 2.
