The Dindoshi police of Malad (east) picked up a 28-year-old from Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh for his alleged role in the kidnapping of a three-year-old local girl. A missing complaint of the girl was lodged at Dindoshi police station last Thursday and on the same day, she was found, quite mysteriously, roaming on platform number four of Goregaon railway station.
The accused, Rahul Singh, was arrested from Sultanpur after getting a tip-off from the mother of the missing girl, Priyanka Singh (30).
Priyanka, in her statement, said that she got a glimpse of Rahul taking her daughter in an auto from their area.
Priyanka also said that she and Rahul were friends at one time. Police teams were then dispatched to Uttar Pradesh and later, officials nabbed Rahul from Sultanpur.
Rahul was produced in court on Monday and the court remanded him to police custody till February 25.
While a clean chit has been given to Priyanka, officials still suspect her role in the case, especially as she keeps changing her statements. Also, she has expressed doubts about many people but after rounding them up, police hasn’t come to any conclusion about the motive behind the kidnapping. Police is now checking CCTV footage of Goregaon railway station where the girl was later found to check who left her there.
The three-year-old was kidnapped on Thursday when her mother went to pick up her eldest son from school. Before leaving, she locked the main gate of the house from outside. Later, when she returned home, she found the door lock broken and her daughter gone. According to police sources, the place from where the girl got kidnapped is very tiny and no outsider can enter there easily, so they are suspecting relatives. Officials also believe that no professional kidnapper was behind this as the victim’s family is very poor and no ransom was demanded. A police investigation is on and officials are speaking to the locals in the area.
