22-year-old jumps in front of train, dies

Government Police Force (GRP) officials have said that family members of 22-year-old Komal Sampant Vadekar are still in shock after learning that the girl committed suicide at Dombivali station.

Government Police Force (GRP) officials have said that family members of 22-year-old Komal Sampant Vadekar are still in shock after learning that the girl committed suicide at Dombivali station.

The incident occurred on Saturday, between 7 pm and 7.20 pm, when Vadekar jumped in front of an oncoming Express train.

Police sub-inspector Jaywant Dongre, who is handling the case, said that they were not able to get any information from the family when they came to claim the body early on Sunday morning.

“The father, mother, as well as the brother were in a state of shock and were not able to talk to us about why they think the young girl took such an extreme step. We, too, did not push them for information after we saw the circumstances,” said Mr Dongre.

Although it was initially not clear how the girl died, GRP officials retrieved CCTV footage from platform number 5 which clearly showed the girl jumping when the express train was passing through the station.

Officials have hinted that the issue could be a personal one. “The father is employed at the same company as a security guard where she was working as a receptionist. But, the picture will be clearer when we call the family for questioning on either Tuesday or Wednesday,” said Mr Dongre.

The girl’s identity was determined after an ID card from her workplace was found lying next to the spot where the incident took place.
