The police on Tuesday detained more than 200 protesters of NCP from all over the city while they were staging a “rasta roko” to protest against the arrest of party leader Chhagan Bhujbal.

The police on Tuesday detained more than 200 protesters of NCP from all over the city while they were staging a “rasta roko” to protest against the arrest of party leader Chhagan Bhujbal. Sources said that Bhujbal had warned the Enforcement Directorate and police officers not to touch him during Monday’s eleven-hour interrogation.

According to police officials, followers of Bhujbal and some other party workers blocked road traffic at different places. Around 20 protesters were detained near Sonapur Junction at Bhandup, 50 were detained at Mela Hotel junction at Worli, 35 near Hotel Zamzam, 40 near Bindu Madhav Thakrey Chowk at Vikhroli and 50 from Chembur naka. The detained persons were released two hours later.

Bhujbal was taken for a medical check-up at around 3 pm on Tuesday, after which he was taken to court. Barricades were set up near the ED office at Ballard Pier and not a single protester was allowed in and around the office. Sources said that Bhujbal didn’t expect to be arrested on Monday and was very upset on being arrested.
