Two Nigerian nationals were arrested by the police after they were found in possession of 130g cocaine on Tuesday.
A police officer got a tip-off from his sources that two people would be coming near Wadi Bunder area to sell cocaine to different dealers. He was given all the details about the two accused, including their facial features and the time they were expected to meet dealers. According to information, police officials then laid a trap to arrest them.
A team from the Azad Maidan police and a separate group from the anti-narcotics unit went to the spot revealed by the informer and arrested the two Nigerians, one with 105 gram cocaine and another with 25 gram and five mobile phones. The total price of the seized product is Rs 7.5 lakh. During his interrogation, the accused told the police that he first came to India a few months ago on a tourist visa.
In 2015, the police has registered a total of 17,268 cases in connection with narcotics products and has arrested at least 18,659 accused in the cases.
A total of Rs 12.5 crore worth products has been recovered. The most seized drug was ganja which was around 408 kg.
“There are so many Nigerians who are involved in these kind of business. This year we have arrested Nigerians in connection with narcotic deals, cyber crimes and flesh trade,” an official said.
“These Nigerians are staying near Navi Mumbai. Soon we will hold a drive to check the details of every Nigerian in the city,” he added.
