2 held for stalking, eve-teasing 18-yr-old
The two accused, who were arrested on Monday for eve-teasing and stalking an 18-year-old girl, were produced in a railway magistrate’s court and remanded to police custody till October 3 by the magistrate for further investigations. Meanwhile, hunt is on to nab the other two accused who accompanied them, while the victim was being stalked and harassed. According to the Bandra government railway police (GRP), the officials received a complaint from the victim through a non-governmental organisation working for women’s safety in the city. The girl had also alleged that the accused had followed her to her residence. The GRP officials then laid a trap to nab the accused. The two arrested accused Mehakarul Shaikh (35), Nijamul Mussa Lashker (22), and their aides were found brazenly passing vulgar comments at the girl at around 9.30 pm. However, even before the police could lay their hands on the accused, Shaikh and Lashker were thrashed by the irate railway commuters, while the other two accused managed to escape. The duo was then handed over to the police, after they were allegedly found harassing the victim. The police said that the girl is a nursing student and a resident of Wadala. She used to travel to Bandra regularly to attend her classes. The girl recently shared her problem with a friend, who then took her to an NGO.
