Nallasopara at the outskirts of the city witnessed two deaths in 12 hours over inter-caste affairs and marriage. In the first case, two minors consumed poisonous liquid in order to commit suicide as their families were opposing their relationship. Following the incident, the girl died in the hospital during treatment late night Monday. In another case, a woman committed suicide after her daughter tied the knot with a man against her wishes. The police has registered accidental death reports in both cases and investigation is going on.
Police sources said that the first incident occurred at Achole road, Nallasopara when a 17-year-old boy, resident of Daun lane, consumed a poisonous liquid substance with his 15-year-old love interest. The boy is a student of Class XI while the girl is a student of Class IX; both of them stay in the same locality and their families known each other since a long time.
Officials said that as the boy and girl belonged to different castes, their families had warned them against meeting each other or continuing their relationship. Upset, both of them consumed a liquid poison to end their life but they were noticed by one of the passers-by who rushed them to hospital. Later, the girl died in hospital while the boy is under treatment.
In the second incident, a 59-year-old woman, Rajeshwari Ameen, consumed poison early Tuesday to commit suicide. According to police officials, she was staying with her daughter in Tulinj area of Nallasopara. Her daughter was in a relationship with a man of another caste and Rajeshwari was upset about it and warned her daughter to end the relationship. Later, her daughter left their house and tied the knot, which made Rajeshwari very upset, following which she committed suicide in her house. Tulinj police was informed by their neighbors and they registered an accidental death report in the case. Police sources said they were checking if the suicide had some other angle like money apart from her daughter’s marriage. They added that preliminary inquiry had revealed that Rajeshwari was depressed since a long time due to the marriage.
