Acting on a tip-off, officials of the anti-robbery and dacoity cell of Mumbai crime branch (CB) has arrested two goons, who, along with four other accused, allegedly committed a dacoity at a jeweller’s house in Rajasthan after a murderous attempt on one of his relatives, decamping with valuables and cash collectively worth `25 lakh. The CB unit seized a firearm found in the duo’s possession, which was used in the crime.

A team led by police inspector Ashok Khot, head of the anti-robbery and dacoity cell, on Friday nabbed the accused near Dreams Mall in Bhandup (west). The accused have been identified as Devraj Thakur (38), a resident of Titwala, and Kisansingh Thakur (30), a resident of Bhandup. A pistol and four cartridges were found in their possession. The duo has a prior criminal record. They have been booked under the Arms Act, and were produced before a magistrate’s court and remanded to police custody.

On December 26, the two arrested accused along with other aides went to the jeweller’s house in Rajsamand where they threatened his relatives with a firearm and even attacked one of them with a chopper.

They then decamped with valuables and cash collectively worth `25 lakh. During investigation, it came to light that the jeweller is from Mumbai. The accused had received a tip-off that the jeweller kept a lot of valuables at his home in Rajasthan after which, they hatched the conspiracy. A first information report has been registered against them under the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act at Amet police station in Rajsamand, Rajasthan, for attempt to murder and dacoity. Their custody will be handed over to Amet police officials. None of the valuables or cash has been recovered so far.
