The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its chargesheet filed last week in connection with the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case has mentioned ‘RSS workers’ while describing details of two wanted accused.
‘RSS workers’ is mentioned in the column of occupation while the describing details of Ram Chandra Kalsangra alias Ramji and Sandeep Dange. As per the supplementary chargesheet, these are the only two accused who are wanted in this case.
Reacting to the news of Kalsangra and Dange’s names appearing as wanted accused in the chargesheet, Manmohan Vaidya, head of communication department, RSS, confirmed in a statement that they were with the organisation. He, however, said that RSS members were neither aware of their involvement in the case nor were they aware about their whereabouts. In his statement, he also made it clear that the Sangh does not support violence. He also demanded that there should be a thorough judicial probe into the entire incident and anyone found guilty should be punished.
Kalsangra and Dange have been named as accused in other serious cases too, including the Samjhuata train blasts in February 2007 in which 68 people were killed. The UN Security Council ascribed the blast to a Pakistani terrorist named Arif Qasmani, who had links to LeT and Dawood Ibrahim.
They are also proclaimed offenders with the CBI and NIA, who have announced a cash reward of '10 lakh for information leading to their arrest. An Interpol red corner notice has also been issued against the duo.
The NIA, in its chargesheet, has claimed that examination of some of the acquaintances and associates of both the wanted accused was carried out during the investigation. The probe revealed that all the mobile numbers traced at the time of the blast in Malegaon were used by the accused. According to the agency, both these accused are alleged to have given arms and explosive training to some of the accused at Bagli hilltop in Devas of Madhya Pradesh.
The agency has given a clean chit to another accused, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, claiming that though the motorcycle used to carry out the blast was registered in her name, Kalsangra was using it for the last two years before the blast took place and there was no evidence to prove her involvement in the blast.
