164 arrested, Rs 13 lakh seized in five-day raids by SSB
Over a period of five days the Social Service Branch (SS Branch) of the Mumbai police crime branch led by deputy commissioner (enforcement) Pravin Patil arrested a total of 164 persons in separate cases, which include raids on dance bars, prostitution rackets, betting on the ongoing Cricket World Cup, gambling dens, a hookah parlour and for running pornographic movies. The SS Branch seized around Rs 13 lakh and other valuables.
The Kaka bar situated on Poddar Road in Malad (east) was raided late night on Saturday where 28 persons, including staff and 19 customers were arrested under the IPC and Maharashtra Police Act. About 14 bar girls were allowed to go, but will have to be present at Dindoshi police station.
Diamond Queen Bar on NM Joshi Road in Byculla (west) was raided where 26 accused, including staff and 19 customers were arrested. About 11 bar girls were allowed to go but will have to be present before the Agripada police station.
Indiana Bar on Haji Ali Road was raided and 42 accused, including customers were arrested. Eight bar girls were allowed to go but will have to be present before Tardeo police.
Three prostitution rackets were busted at Suklaji Street in Nagpada, Om Nivas building in Lamington road and Four Bungalows area in Andheri (west). A total of four pimps have been arrested under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act and a total of 14 girls have been rescued. About 44 persons were arrested for gambling, 11 for smoking hookah and six for betting on cricket matches.
