A 15-year-old boy died after falling into a drain on Friday night. According to officials, he was playing with a friend near a water body.
The deceased, identified as Aftab Sayyed , was playing with his friend, Arbaz Ansari (12), when the incident took place. According to the Mulund Police, the two, who are residents of Amar Nagar, Mulund (west) were out, playing in the rains, when they fell into an open drain that they had failed to notice.
Later, locals informed the families of the boys that they had been removed from the drain and that the police had been informed. When the police arrived, the boys were taken to a nearby hospital. Aftab was declared dead before admission, but Arbaz is presently undergoing treatment,” said an officer.
Speaking about the case, senior police inspector Rajaram Vithoba Vhanmane from
Mulund police station said, “We learnt about the incident from the control room. “Our preliminary probe suggests that the boys were playing during heavy rainfall. They did not notice the open drain and accidentally fell into it.”
“We are investigating whether municipal corporation officials are responsible for the accident, as residents had approached them many times, but they didn’t carry out the work,” he said.
