The Bombay high court on Thursday directed Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take action against 112 buildings located in the four-kilometre radius of the Mumbai airport that exceed the 56-metre height restriction.

The court also directed BMC to take the help of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to measure the height of the buildings.

A division bench of Justice V.M. Kanade and Justice Swapana Joshi was hearing a petition filed by advocate Yashwant Shenoy, who sought demolitions of high-rise buildings that are violating height regulations around the airport.

An advocate for a builder told the court on Wednesday that as the Central government’s resolution regarding construction heights near airport area keeps changing, they want to know the exact (permitted) heights on construction of buildings in the airport’s vicinity.

While accepting this, the court also said, “We are really concerned about what exactly is the height restriction.”
