A 63-year-old labourer died and six others were injured after a slab collapsed on them Friday evening at Bharat Industrial Estate, Goregaon east.
Sudam Gangavne, who sustained shoulder injuries and had a bleeding nose, was pronounced dead by doctors after reaching Balasaheb Thackeray trauma hospital in Jogeshwari. The other six have been identified as Lalji Yadav (42), Dattatreya Mokal (47), Jaffar Khan (43), Pappu Yadav (34), Bhagwan Jadhav (62) and Shabinath Yadav (60). All of them have been admitted to hospital and are recovering.
The local Vanrai police registered a case against three persons under relevant sections of IPC for negligence however no arrest has been made. Confirming the incident, local DCP, M. Ramkumar said, “A FIR has been registered under Section 304 (A) of IPC against site supervisors and owners of the units.”
Sources said when local police officials inspected the construction site, they found no precautionary measures had been taken which is why they have registered a case of negligence against the owners and supervisers. Sources further said that some repair work was underway at unit 1 and 2 in Bamanwadi, Goregaon, during which, debris fell on the balcony from the rooftop. The balcony could not take the weight of the debris and collapsed on the labourers working beneath it.
