MRDC holds ‘Maha Ganeshotsav’

Mumbai: To commemorate 125 years of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has organised the ‘Maha Ganeshotsav’ event to promote the spirit of the festival. The event began last Saturday and will conclude on Tuesday.

The Ganesh Utsav is one of the biggest festivals in Maharashtra, which is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. Devotees from different walks of life come together to welcome the elephant-headed god. Therefore MTDC has organised Ganesh Darshan tours for devotees, which comprises cultural programme depicting the facets culture of the state through folk dances including Mangala Gaur and Koli Dance.

The tour will cover major pandals such as Ganesh Gully, Chintamani Chinchpokali, Rang Ari  Badak  Chawl and Brahman Sabha, which is celebrating 100 years. It will also include a special visit to the eco-friendly Ganapati at Girgaon, the Keshavaji  Naik  Chawl Ganapati started by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, GSB and Siddhivinayak.

In Pune, the tour will commence from Shaniwar Wada, which comprises Kasbapeth Ganesh pandal, Tambadi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Dagdusheth and Tulshibaug Ganeshas. In the Konkan tour will include Ganesh Pandal of Dive Agar and Harihareshwar.

MTDC minister Jaykumar Rawal said, “MTDC will collaborate with the BMC to develop separate pandal for foreign travellers to perceive the Ganesh procession at Girgaon Chowpatty. This enclosure will be able to lodge 200 tourists at batch in an hour. This will also exhibit how Ganesh Festival has transformed over the decades and this initiative will certainly draw attention of domestic and foreign tourists. All tours will be organised between August 27 to September 3, online bookings can be done on MTDC website”.

Tourists will be able to participate in rituals, cultural programmes and social initiatives, besides getting a chance to taste local delicacies.”
