MUMBAI: The Mumbai division of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has debarred 52 students of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) for copying and cheating during the examinations held in March.

“There were a total of 58 copy cases registered in the Mumbai division which mostly occurred during the Chemistry paper conducted in the first week of May. A special committee was set up by the board to find out about these cases.

After investigations, it has been found that 52 out of them are guilty and hence will be debarred from two examinations,” said Subhash Bhorse, in-charge secretary of MSBSHSE, Mumbai division.

These students will be allowed to appear for the examination in the month of February-March 2019.

The remaining six students were found to have no involvement in the copy cases, which is why they have been left with a warning. One of the case is still under investigation as a FIR has been registered against him in the Bhoiwada police station and his results have been put on hold.

This year 1,039 copy cases were registered in the entire Maharashtra out of which 58 were from Mumbai.
