Mumbai: The Kamghar Seva Sangh, a taxi union created barely two years ago and supported by the Jai Bhagwan, a union which was responsible for a protest call turning violent with the smashing of an Ola's windows last year, has declared a strike on January 18 from 12 pm to 12 am.

The head of the Kamghar Seva Sangh, ex-MLA Krishna Hegde said, “There are so many issues, the surcharge prices is yet to be controlled by the government and the issues of taxis at the domestic and international airport has not been taken care of as yet.”

He further added, “We have sent a letter to transport minister Diwakar Raote, communicating our plan to go on strike. We have tried to have a dialogue about the delay but they are not able to give us any specific dates.”

On the other hand, .L. Quadros, who heads the Mumbai Taximen Union (MTU), also the oldest and largest taxi union in the city, has clarified that they will not be supporting the strike.

He said,“This fight is on since a long time and at least now the Khatua committee has submitted the report. We are in touch with the government and they have told us that they will soon implement the city taxi scheme to control Ola/Uber prices and a scheme for us.”
