Mumbai: The state government on Tuesday inducted daughter of 26/11 martyr, Constable Shashank Shinde, into the sales tax department as assistant commissioner.

“Nivedita Shashank Shinde has been appointed as assistant sales tax commissioner in the sales tax department on compassionate grounds,” said finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar as he gave Ms Shinde the order of appointment at a programme held at Sahyadri Guest House on Tuesday.

The programme was attended by principal secretary to finance department, V. Giriraj; wife of the deceased constable, Manasi Shashank Shinde; his other daughter Aditi Shinde; and officers and dignitaries. “Today, while giving this order of appointment in government service, there is a sad background to it,” said Mr Mungantiwar. “But you (Ms Shinde) are getting an opportunity to fulfill your father's dream to serve the country,” he added.
