Mumbai: A day after NCP senior MLA Dilip Sopal joined the Shiv Sena, the Sharad Pawar-led party may be staring at another exit.

Avdhut Tatkare, who represents Shrivardhan constituency in the state Assembly called on Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.

Mr Tatkare also made his intentions clear saying that he wanted “to remain in mainstream politics”.

Mr Tatkare is the son of Anil Tatkare. The MLA is the nephew of NCP MP Sunil Tatkare, who was elected from Raigad in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“We had talks with Mr Thackeray about entering mainstream politics. But no discussion was held on induction into the party. I will take the decision in a couple of days by speaking to my supporters,” Mr Tatkare, who was accompanied by his father, said.

Sources said that Mr Tatkare was expected to join the Sena on Thursday itself but held formal talks with Mr Thackeray on the political situation in Raigad district.

Mr Tatkare is expected to join the Sena on September 3.

Reportedly, Mr Tatkare and his father have decided to join the Sena due to an internal feud within the Tatkare family.

During the Roha municipal council elections, the MLA had insisted that the NCP field his brother Sandeep Tatkare for the position of municipal council president.

However, the Raigad MP fielded another relative instead.

A miffed Sandeep joined the Shiv Sena to contest the election, and was supported by the father-son duo. Nevertheless, Sandeep was relegated to the third position in the poll.

Maharashtra is expected to go to polls in October this year.
