MUMBAI: After refusing for five hours to accept the body of a pedestrian, carpenter Govind Dubey (36), who got killed in the crash of a chartered plane on Thursday in Ghatkopar, his family relented at around 8 pm on Friday and took the body for conducting the final rites. His family was not accepting the body in protest against the government as it held the ‘system’ responsible for the death and the fact that no help came to them. Govind was married a year ago and has left behind his wife, Sarojini, who lives with her in-laws in Jaunpur.

Meanwhile, the family of Marya Zuberi, the co-pilot who died in the crash on Thursday, issued a statement, raising a question that the company, involved in the ill- fated plane’s repairs was allegedly incapable of detecting the technical snags that could have led to its crash. “We want to know whether their technical teams are capable of detecting technical snags or not and whether profit motives superseded the need for diligence before letting such a plane off the ground,” reads the statement.

Arvind Dubey, who is an elder brother to deceased Govind Dubey, held responsible to the system for this incident. Arvind said, “I need help from the government. I did not see any leader, representatives of government or aircraft company. I think that we don’t have any value in the society as we belong to other state.”

His body was given to the family at 3.00 pm in afternoon but the family refused to take it home as no representative from the government and political parties have met them. After the intervention by Kalwa corporator Mahesh Salvi, who convinced the family members, the family decided to take up the dead body. Mr Salvi assured them that his party Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jitendra Awhad has apprised to chief minister about financial aid.
