Mumbai: Senior Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant is likely to be sworn in as a union minister in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet on Thursday. The 68-year-old Sawant was re-elected from Mumbai South seat where he defeated  Congress’ Milind Deora by 1,00,067 votes in the Lok Sabha polls.

With 18 MPs in the parliament, Shiv Sena is the second largest party in the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance.

In the last Modi-led government, Sena was given only one cabinet post. However, this time the Sena is likely to be allotted one cabinet and a state ministership with an independent charge, said sources.

According to Sena sources, Mr Sawant will replace Anant Geete, the lone Sena minister in the previous government.
