Mumbai: The death toll of the fire that broke out Sunday at Goregaon’s Techniplus building has risen to five, with a body being removed from the debris on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a major fire broke out near a famous sweets shop in Malad Tuesday morning but it was later doused and no casualty was reported.

The rescue and search operations at Goregaon’s Techniplus building finally ended on Tuesday morning after the fifth body was recovered from the electric panel room. The body is yet to be identified by fire officials. P.S. Rahangdale, chief fire officer, Mumbai fire brigade (MFB), said, “The person might have tried to hide in that place so as to save himself from the fire.”

This takes the death toll to five, with three bodies being recovered late Sunday night and the fourth body taken out Monday morning.

A major fire broke out on the seventh floor of the glass façade building on Sunday last week.

Meanwhile, a major fire broke out in one of the buildings in Gupta Market which is located behind M.M. Mithaiwala, a famous sweets shop near Malad (west) railway station. Five fire engines were rushed to the spot, and the fire was doused around 10 am.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be known, it will be under investigation for a week,” said Mr Rahangdale.
