Dte directed to explain goof up in admissions

Mumbai:The Bombay high court has asked the respondent authorities of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) as well as the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell to file replies as to how they could conduct central admission process (CAP) with reduced seats for an institute that had received approval for increased seats.

The court came down heavily on the errant authorities and stated that they should file an explanation for their behaviour.

A division bench of Justices S.C. Dharmadhikari and Bharti Dangare was hearing a writ petition filed by Sandip Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Nashik, a private pharmaceutical institute, praying that though it had been given approval to increase the intake capacity of students for the academic year 2018-19 by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), the local authorities namely the DTE and state CET had not considered the same and had initiated the CAP round for seats as per the older approved intake capacity.

The institute claimed that as a result of this they would lose out on a chance to attract students which would lead to vacant seats in the post graduate courses for which they had got the intake capacity increased. The institute had already got the approval from AICTE as well as Savitribai Phule University to increase the intake capacity.
