BMC re-registers 300 citizen groups

Last year, the BMC had cancelled registration of 310 ALMs for their failure to carry out waste segregation and composting in their areas.

Mumbai: Nearly 300 Advanced Locality Managements (ALMs), which are citizen groups, have got a new lease of life as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has re-registered them for showing willingness to implement waste management and composting in their areas.

Last year, the BMC had cancelled registration of 310 ALMs for their failure to carry out waste segregation and composting in their areas.

However, a group of civic activists later appealed to the BMC to reconsider the decision of de-registration of ALMs. Following this, the civic body decided to re-register around 300 ALMs on the condition that they have to keep performing their core responsibility of waste segregation.

“The performance of re-registered ALMs will be closely observed. The review of their works will be undertaken in October. Depending on their performance, the civic body would take a call on whether to register them permanently or not,” said a senior civic official.
