MUMBAI: Around six months after anchor Arpita Tiwari (25) was found dead in the duct of Malvani-based Manavsthal building on December 11, the main case accused, Amit Hazra (27) — who was charged with her murder as she had spurned his advances — is out on bail.

Arpita’s sister Shweta, however, alleges that the accused has been misleading the police and that she has been alerting the police about Arpita’s boyfriend’s alleged involvement in the case as well. The Malvani police however has clarified that it can only act on evidence not mere allegations.

According to Shweta, she is positive that the then-boyfriend could have played a role. She alleged that after the then boyfriend gave a statement against Hazra, he was given a clean chit.

Commenting on the allegations placed by Tiwari’s sister, Malvani police station’s senior police inspector Deepak Phatangare said, “There was no proof against the boyfriend, Pankaj Jadhav, and an arrest cannot be made on mere allegations.”
