Mumbai: The Worli police has arrested a 19-year-old for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old minor on Friday. The accused, who stayed in the same neighbourhood as the girl, allegedly lured her on the pretext of giving her some study notes and then raped her.
The police after interrogating him confirmed that samples collected from the girl matched that of the accused and arrested him on Monday. According to sources in the Worli police, the incident occurred on Friday when the minor was returning from school.
“The accused knew her as they stayed in the same area. On that day he approached her, and after talking casually for some time, he told her that he had some old study notes which he can share with her and it would help her in examinations,” said the police sources.
The police sources also said that the accused then took her to a desolate area in Worli and raped her. “The minor told her mother about the incident, and then they approached us. We investigated and then called the accused for questioning,” the police sources added.
The police sent the victim for a medical test, which confirmed that she was raped. After questioning the accused, he was also sent for a medical test. “Some of the samples collected from the accused matched with those collected from the victim. We then arrested the accused on Monday night,” said a police officer.
The arrested accused is unemployed and has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
