Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will only construct the piers of the incomplete Bihanmumbai Munici-pal Corporation (BMC) bridge at Jogeshwari —Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), while the bridge itself will be constructed by the civic agency. The project has been delayed due to the Metro 6 (Lokhandwala — Jogesh-wari — Vikhroli) alignment. Initially, there was confusion among the MMRDA and the BMC regarding the construction of bridge as the metro and the bridge came in the same alignment and it was decided that metro will run above the bridge.

Now, MMRDA has made it clear that the BMC will only construct the remaining part of the bridge. Commuters will have to wait to ply on the bridge, which is expected to decongest traffic at JVLR junction.

“We have told the BMC that we will just construct the piers and the rest of the bridge completion work will be upon the civic body. The bridge will come in between the already existing bridge and metro 6 line. The metro line will pass above the bridge,” said a senior MMRDA official.

For the past one year, the civic body was in a dilemma about which agency will continue with the completion of bridge. The corridor received the cabinet nod recently. Both the bridge and the metro will have common piers for a distance of 2 km. The project has been in a limbo since the past one year.
