Mumbai: A sessions court in Dindoshi has rejected the bail plea of a 57-year-old woman arrested in connection with the murder of her son with the help of her 25-year-old paramour, who was the family’s driver. The murder, which took place in December 2015, was planned allegedly after the woman discovered that her son was proving to be a hurdle in her affair with the driver.

The prosecution’s case is that Cecilia D’Souza was living with her son Ronald, alias Rony, and daughter Jenin at Link Road in Malad. On December 8, 2015 at around 8pm, Rony’s dead body was found in a pool of blood. His mobile phone worth Rs 10,000 and a gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh were missing.

The accused herself filed a police complaint about her son’s murder. However, during the investigation, the police found that she was allegedly having an affair with family driver, Bharat Olly, and the deceased was opposing the said relationship. Hence, the two conspired to eliminate him. The police has claimed that Bharat, with the help of his brother Dipak, committed the murder and both the accused are still at large.

Public prosecutor D. N. Mudiganti argued before the judge Dr Khwaja F. M. that on the date of the incident, D’Souza called Olly 12 times for ascertaining his location.

D’Souza said that she was too old to have an affair with Olly. She had informed the police that her driver had a fight with her son. The argument was that on the day of the incident, Olly met her on the street and she learnt from him that he had fought her son. But she said that she did not know that he had killed her son. As soon as she found her son in a pool of blood, she informed the police.

The judge rejected her bail application stating that there is every possibility of destroying the evidence and fleeing from justice.
