A complaint has been filed by NCP worker Sachin Kurhade at Karad, Satara police station.

Mumbai: Wikipedia was changed to call him “the most corrupt” leader in India. Soon after the complaint was registered, Mr Pawar’s profile was altered again to “the most loyal” leader and later to “the most popular” leader.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, someone mischievously updated NCP chief Sharad Pawar's Wikipedia page to describe him as the most corrupt Indian politician. The data was updated by a fake account. Wikipedia has a facility whereby anyone can change information online and investigation is underway to find the culprit.

A complaint has been filed by NCP worker Sachin Kurhade at Karad, Satara police station. It is not the only incident. In a similar instance in the past, before Ranjitsingh Mohite-Patil left the NCP, his party information on Wikipedia kept changing every day. At the time, Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil was mentioned as a leader of three different parties in a period of three days.

Earlier, Sharad Pawar withdrew from contesting the Lok Sabha election from Madha constituency in Solapur district. The former Union agriculture minister claimed that he had decided not to contest because he did not want three members of the Pawar family in the fray at the same time.

Pawar’s withdrawal has paved the way for Parth Pawar, son of Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar, to contest the Lok Sabha election from the Maval constituency near Pune.
