Kandivali Police arrest man for raping 10-year-old girl

Mumbai: The Kandivali police early on Monday arrested from Gujarat a 36-year-old male, who was accused of allegedly kidnapping and raping a 10-year-old girl on March 5.

The accused had allegedly kidnapped the girl Kandivali from SV Road, where she lived with her parents and allegedly raped her in the bushes near the railway tracks.

According to police sources, the accused, who is unemployed, has been living in Mumbai since the past four years. He was loitering in the area on the night of March 5 in an inebriated state when he saw the minor unattended.

The girl was found missing the next day, following which the parents started searching for her. When the parents saw her lying naked in the bushes, they informed the local police, following which the police registered a complaint against the accused and booked him. The police then sent teams to different states and deployed police forces across the railway stations in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Gujarat.     

Speaking to The Asian Age, Mukund Pawar, senior police inspector of Kandivali police station, said, “The accused is a native of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and had been working in Mumbai for four years. Since he is still under trial, I cannot reveal his name.”

The police has booked him for kidnapping and rape under sections 363 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code, along with section 4 of the POCSO Act. The accused was produced in court on Monday and will be remanded in police custody till Saturday.
