Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has received flak from its political rivals for its violent protests against hawkers in Mumbai and Thane, but netizens have lauded the party for its actions on social networking sites.

Facebook user Aishwarya Jain, a Goregaon resident who often travels to Dadar, said, “On Monday, I was shocked to see Dadar station hawker-free, and the view was exhilarating. I could actually see the road on a Monday evening, which is otherwise crowded with hawkers.”

Another Dadar resident, Kshipra Mhatre, a web designer, said, “Even if the act was done in an unlawful manner, the results are what all Mumbaikars always want to see.”

A Twitter user thanked MNS chief Raj Thackeray: “Sir, happy to see railways and police are keeping stations ‘hawker free’! Thanks for Diwali gift to all commuters (sic).”
