Mumbai: Buoyed by its recent success in the polls for the Nanded Municipal Corporation, the Congress is going to hold various programmes across the state to highlight the plight of the farmers, fuel hike, inflation and many other issues. It will kick-start the Jan Akrosh Andolan from October 31 in Ahmednagar district. A farmers’ dindi (procession) will be organised in all districts, which will end in Nagpur on December 11, the first day of the winter session of the state legislature.

Disappointed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government’s performance, Congress state president Ashok Chavan said people are in distress everywhere due to the regime’s wrong policies.

“The government’s performance is very disappointing in the last three years. The loan waiver given to the farmers has so many irregularities, consistent fuel hike is pinching the pockets of the people, there is no minimum support price for agriculture goods and the people are fed up with the BJP. Therefore we have decided to carry out Jan Akrosh Andolan from October 31 from Ahmednagar district. We will take up all issues, including reservation. The date also coincides with late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary,” Mr Chavan told reporters in Mumbai.

Questioning the demonetisation decision, the former chief minister said it has claimed the lives of over 100 people. “The demonetisation was a complete failure and we will be observing it as a black day at Sangli,” he said.

Commenting on farmers’ issues, Mr Chavan said that the Congress has organised farmers’ processions in every district. “We will go to every district to highlight the plight of the farmers. The dindi will reach Nagpur on December 11, the first day of the winter session of the legislature,” the Congress leader said.
