Mhada passes budget to build 15,000 homes

Mumbai: Giving a boost to the state’s plan of affordable housing, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has passed its annual budget of Rs 6,316 crore. Nearly Rs 4,000 crore will be spent on construction of new low-cost houses for Mumbaikars. A total of 15,430 houses will be built in the coming year by the authority. 

The 2018-19 budget was presented by the Milind Mhaiskar, chief executive officer,Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis passed the budget on Monday.  The low-cost houses will be built to boost Pradhan Mantri Awads Yojna (PMAY), a housing scheme introduced by the centre. The proposed houses will be built in the Mumbai and Konkan region of the state. Furthermore, the authority has taken up repairs of 947 dilapidated buildings as compared to 850 buildings which were taken for repairs last year. According to Mhadaofficials, Rs 5,180 crore will be spent for redevelopment and construction activities this year.
