Mumbai: The delayed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) flyover at Jogeshwari will finally be completed as the Metro line 6 received a green signal from the Cabinet on Tuesday. The Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg-Vikhroli metro 6 corridor clashed with the alignment of the flyover, post which the construction of it was stalled.

Now the MMRDA are in talks with the BMC to decide on who will continue with the construction of the bridge. Both the bridge and the metro will have common piers for a distance of 2 km.

“Our team of technical experts will discuss with BMC’s technical experts. On the completion of the flyover, there will be a common space where the work of ROB as well as Metro will take place. The agency which will continue with the work of the bridge would be decided.

If the BMC agrees, then they can do it or else MMRDA will complete the works. For a distance of 2km, both the bridge and Metro will have common piers,” said U.P.S. Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

The eastern arm of the ROB which connects Western Express Highway (WEH) to JVLR was thrown open to motorists in September 2015. Later it was decided to that the ROB should be extended till the link road in the west to decongest JVLR. However, the extension has been in a limbo since past one year after the Metro 6 alignment collided with ROB. “We are still awaiting for approval from the MMRDA. Although the project received cabinet approval, we still did not get the final alignment papers. We are regularly in touch with the authority. We need to know the exact height of the elevated corridor, location of station, etc to go ahead with the  completion of the bridge,” said a senior civic official from the Bridges department.
