Mumbai: Seeking to counter chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ Maha Janadesh Yatra, Congress will kick off its Maha Pardaphash (expose) Sabha on Monday. The rally, which aims to “expose” chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s development claims will mark the presence of several party leaders, including AICC general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra Mallikarjun Kharge and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.

The rally, which was earlier scheduled to begin on August 20, was postponed as the party’s central leadership conducted a programme at K.D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on August 22 to mark the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.

All district presidents and senior leaders of the state were told to attend the event in Delhi.

The party’s state unit issued a statement saying people in the state are helpless as chief minister is busy with the Maha Janadesh Yatra.

“Severe drought and floods have left people of Maharashtra helpless. Despite such situation, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis resumed his Maha Janadesh Yatra,” read the statement.

“Chief minister’s only aim is to return to power and he is misleading people by taking credit for the work done by others. Congress has decided to expose Mr Fadnavis’ claims by conducting Maha Pardaphash Sabha,” it further said.

Congress campaign committee chief Nana Patole, Maharashtra Congress president Balasaheb Thorat, former chief ministers Ashok Chavan, Sushil Kumar Shinde, and Prithviraj Chavan, Leader of Legislative Congress Party K.C. Padvi, Leader of the Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar, AICC secretary Ashish Dua will be attending the programme.
