‘Scions of Shahu Maharaj should lead stir’

Pune: The Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM) now wants Udayanraje Bhosale and Sambhajiraje Bhosale to lead the protests as they are the descendants of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. The outfit has also requested that protests be held peacefully as two youth have already lost their lives and 600 others have been booked by the police.

Pravin Gaikwad, state coordinator, MKM, on Wednesday said, “Udayanraje Bhosale, MP, Satara and Sambhajiraje, MP, Rajya Sabha — both descendants of Shahu Maharaj — should lead the Maratha strike. As the youth who have lost patience and turned violent will only be pacified by such leadership.”

“When other political/social leaders meet the state government, their credibility is lost. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government uses tact to make sure that the leaders it meets lose their credibility. We have seen that during the farmers’ agitation and the milk agitation. The Chhatrapati family is respected by all. They would be the best to lead the morcha for the demands of the Maratha community,” Mr Gaikwad said.

“The agitation has become violent and two youths have committed suicide and another five have attempted suicide. Six hundred youths have been booked by the police for participating in the strike. The youths should stay away from taking law and order in their hands,” he added.
