Mumbai: The closure of Lower Parel’s Delisle road overbridge (ROB) on created hardship for pedestrians.

Many were confused about how to get to their destinations. After chaos in the morning, 20 RPF personnel were deployed to manage crowds. According to one pedestrian, the authorities should have made an alternate option before shutting down the ROB.

People were forced to walk through congested areas. Apart from the narrow Datta Ahire Marg there are no alternate public pathways to cross into Lower Parel.

Many travellers were left confused as to the route to take to reach their destination. Commuters rued that there was no concrete mechanism in place to disperse those who were using the ROB till Monday as there was an absence of signage and personnel to direct crowd.

Isak Ali, a tailor, said,  “I used this bridge to commute daily. Now, we have to take a long turn just to catch a train.”

Another commuter, who works in a private firm, Sanjay Chavan, said, “The  government has made no alternate facilities, neither has it kept a person who can direct us. We are so confused.”

The ROB was built in 1921. The ROB was closed for re-construction after the IIT-B submitted its findings after detailed technical inspection.
