Mumbai: The Bombay high court (HC) has permitted a Pune-based woman to terminate her 25-week foetus. A medical board set up by the HC mentioned in its report that the foetus has serious morbidities due to which it cannot survive in future. The court directed the Sasoon hospital, Pune to terminate her pregnancy within three days.

A division bench of Justice Shantanu Kemkar and Justice Prakash Naik observed that if the woman is allowed to give birth to foetus, there is substantial risk for his life. The petitioner had submitted various Supreme Court orders as well as medical certificates in support of her claim. On March 9, the HC had directed the state to constitute a committee or medical board.
