Mumbai: Confident of getting its mayor elected in the Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation (BMC), Shiv Sena with its 84 corporators and five independent corporators will register the party at Konkan Bhavan on Tuesday. Also, Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray made it clear that the party would not reach a compromise with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Meanwhile, a first meeting of all Sena corporators and independents on Saturday was headed by party chief Uddhav Thackeray at Sena Bhavan. Mr Thackeray congratulated all corporators and made an announcement about the registration process, which is necessary for the party to get recognition. He even told the party men that a Sena mayor would be appointed in the BMC soon. The newly elected corporators were given an idea about the basic functioning of the BMC and how to work following the same.

The new independent corporators were added to the Sena fold on Saturday after Mumtaj Khan from Bandra declared her support for the party. This increased the Sena’s tally to 89. The BJP has 83 corporators at present.

After the meeting got over, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut told the media that the party was confident it would come to power in the BMC. “I can only say that the mayor will be from our party. We will not need support from the BJP,” he said. However, the Sena MP was tight-lipped about how the party would get a majority in the BMC. He also refused to comment on the reports about Congress and NCP possibly supporting the Sena in the civic body.
