Kolkata: A man was arrested from Baruipur in South 24 Parganas for allegedly copying the new note of Rs 2,000 denomination to produce fake notes for circulation.

The accused, Prasenjit Biswas, is a resident of Golambari area. On Saturday morning, the cops raided his house and arrested him.

A printing machine and two notes of Rs 2,000 were recovered from his house. The police came to know about Prasenjit’s role after seven fake notes of Rs 2,000 were recovered from two minor boys in the area, recently.

Interrogating the duo, the cops found out that Prasenjit was copying notes at home since the new notes came out after demonetisation.

On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that use of all Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes would be invalid after midnight, and announced the issuance of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 banknotes.

In the afternoon, the accused was produced at Baruipur Court which has remanded him in police custody for seven days.
