Mumbai: A tempo rammed into three motorcycles, knocking down five persons — killing two and injuring others, on the Sion flyover Wednesday afternoon. The police said that the tempo and motorbikes were moving in opposite directions.

The tempo driver, Aadesh Wankhede, has been arrested.

The accident took place at around 3.35 pm on the northbound lane of Sion flyover. Wankhede lost control and rammed into three two-wheelers occupied by four persons. The tempo knocked down three two-wheelers bearing the numbers MH04-JP-1578, MH03-DF-9663 and MH03-BF-8456. The bike-borne persons included Abdul Wahid Moha-mmad Roshan (45), Abbas Shaikh (38), Badshah Mohiu-ddin (26), Umesh Sahani (42) and Khalida Wahid (40).

A Mumbai police officer said, “The driver was apprehended and the police was informed about the accident. The victims were rushed to Sion Hospital for treatment.”

In another mishap, at Samata Nagar, a 28-year-old man was killed after the two-wheeler he and another person were riding was hit by a car. The accused driver fled from the spot, and the police is on the lookout for him.

Two separate cases have been filed for rash driving and death due to negligence and further investigation is underway.
