Mumbai: The healthcare workers’ alliance will stage a statewide protest on November 26 to press for its demands, including better healthcare for the common public.

The agitation will be spearheaded by the “Alliance for Defence of Hea-lth Services and Rights”, a joint initiative of various medical organisations, trade unions and federations of health sector employees.

Dr Narayan Joshi, convenor of the alliance, said, “The government is least bothered about the public healthcare sector which is why we are taking to the streets for simple medical rights. Basic issues such as shortage of essential medicines in government hospitals and health centres acro-ss the state should be prioritised. Changes sh-ould be made on a war footing in the drug procurement and distribution system in state. Cur-rent policies of relying on contractual appointments and privatisation must be abolished.”

Dr Sanjeev Kamble, state director of health services, said, “We  are open to discussion.”
