Mumbai: After the Andhra Pradesh government enacted a law providing 75 per cent reservation to locals in private companies, the Shiv Sena, too, wants to implement the same in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena leader and Mhada chairman, Uday Samant, has decided to take initiative in this regard. “I will be writing a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, asking him to provide reservation to state locals in private companies on the lines of Andhra Pradesh,” he said. Andhra Pradesh has enacted such a law to reduce unemployment in the state. Maharashtra should enact a law on the lines of Andhra Pradesh, making it compulsory to provide 80 per cent jobs to locals, Mr Samant said.

The law, once implemented, will make it compulsory for owners of private companies to provide jobs to local unemployed youth in their districts. In addition to this, we also demand that locals be given priority in government jobs, he said.

I will also meet Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray and request him to take the initiative in this case, said Mr Samant.

Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Congress government led by its chief minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has passed a law to provide 75 per cent reservation to local youth in all private companies taken up under the PPP model in the state.

The Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act, 2019, was passed Monday during the ongoing budget session of the Assembly. Accordingly, private industries/ factories, joint ventures and projects under public-private partnership mode are required to reserve 75 per cent of the jobs for local candidates.
