Mumbai: The Delisle Road Over bridge (ROB) will remain shut for at least two more years as it will take 24 months for the structure to be built afresh. Sources said it would take at least three months to dismantle the ROB and another three months to finalise
the tender for awarding contracts while 18 months would be required for civil works. Western Railway (WR) sources said that the Lower Parel ROB is highly corroded.

A senior WR official said, “As of now, it hasn’t been decided who will construct the bridge.

We had requested the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to construct the bridge as it is skewed by 65 degrees. However, it hasn’t replied.”

The senior official also said that most of the construction work would be outside of the railway tracks. He said, “Most of structures, utilities cables and drainages below the ROB are outside the railway tracks.”

Pedestrians and motorists used the ROB alike, and when it was shut, pedestrians resorted to using foot overbridges. “We did not know so much people were using the ROB,” the official said.
