Mumbai: When a motorman and guard of a Mumbai local were questioned how they both missed the signal at Malad where the train was to be terminated, the answer received was that they “forgot”. The train was led all the way to Kandivali, thereby causing confusion among passengers, because, as the two said, they assumed that the next halt would be at Borivali.

An official from WR said, “A lot of our trains go slow after Andheri and Borivali and are fast until then, these two men were confused as a result.”

According to sources over 500 passengers then de-boarded at Kandivali from the 12-coach train and boarded a train heading towards Churchgate in order to get back to their original destination in the first place.

Western Railway (WR) chief public relations officer, Ravindra Bhakar said, “The motorman, Jagdish Parmar and guard, Deepak Prasad have both been removed from duty and a probe has been initiated against them.” He further added, “The train was to be terminated at Malad and then taken to Malad yard, but instead halted at Kandivali platform and was taken to a yard next to that station.”

According to sources, since the line was down, and on the left most side of the line there was no chances of any head on collision.
