Mumbai: The Mumbai sessions court has granted bail to Abdul Razak Ismail Supariwala, a builder and accused in the fire incident of Crystal Plaza building in Parel. The court directed him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and also asked him not to enter the building premises or leave the country.

On August 21, a fire had gutted the 17-storey building in Parel, killing four and injuring 16 others. The very next day, the police arrested Mr Supariwala who allowed residents to live in the building without receiving an occupational certificate (OC).

Mumbai Fire Brigade had filed police a complaint against the builder. According to the complaint, builder sold flats without getting OC and he also failed to install fire safety equipments in the building.

The prosecution argued before the court that builder has not only violated fire safety norms but also there was an illegal construction on the eight floor of the building, which was later demolished by the BMC.

Advocate Shyam Dewani represented Supariwala in the court. He contended before the court that since 2012 builder was asking the residents to form a committee but they did not.

Advocate Dewani further argued that it was society members responsibility to form a committee and install fire safety equipments in the building.

He o argued that since 2012 builder was running behind the BMC to receive Occupational Certificate (OC) but it hasn’t been issued to him till today.
