Mumbai: This Diwali, the railway authorities are on a high alert for hackers who usually come out of the woodwork during this season, every year. They are monitoring the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website for hacking and feel that the recent crackdown might have slowed them down but they are likely to once again become active during the festive days of Navratri and Diwali.

The railways have been seeing the speeding up of the software when the IRCTC website opens its online booking facility at 8 am. It is done in such a way that the person’s waiting number goes up, allowing them to book the tickets faster as compared to others.

An official said, “Right now, the trick for us is that we need to keep a watch on the IP address of the computers, which are being used to book tickets successfully every time the website begins to allow bookings.”
