Mumbai: JNU student leader Kanhaiyya Kumar on Wednesday slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and the BJP over deteriorating peace and harmony in the country. He alleged that the BJP was solely responsible for the vitiating social environment in the country.

Mr Kumar said that democracy India was under threat and that democratic institutions, including media, were falling under fascist forces. Mr Kumar was speaking to the press in Mumbai on Wednesday. Mr Kumar claimed that during his speech in Chembur last year, Vaibhav Raut, who was recently arrested, had protested. “This same person had come there to protest my speech. At the time, my speech was arranged in Chembur after I got bail in the JNU controversy. Veteran journalist Gauri Lankesh was alive then. It was later that she was murdered. So, my point is that those who killed
her and those who were opposing us share good relations between themselves,” he said.

He added, “I completed Ph.D. this year. Now I am thirty and I can show my certificate. Those who keep raising questions over our education do not talk about the PM’s degree.” “Now, the supporters of this government said that we couldn’t ask questions. Why? It is the responsibility of every citizen to raise questions,” he said.
