Mumbai: The recent delay with respect to the On-Screen Assessment by teachers of Mumbai University examination papers has brought to light technical glitches in the system and the fact that some teachers are getting answer sheets of subjects they don’t even teach.

Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor of Mumbai University (MU) has asked the teachers to complete the assessment within July 31.

Teachers are reportedly getting answer sheets of subjects they don’t even teach. Technically teachers gets a bundle of answer sheets of the subject they have expertise on or the subject they teach. However, because the system is digitised and full of glitches, teachers are receiving wrong subject bundle of answer papers. “I have been continuously getting Geography paper when my subject is History. Forget about assessing it, I am completely unaware about the subject,” said a teacher.

MU, for its part, has asked teachers to write an email to the varsity stating their complaints. However, a teacher said, “I have tried writing to the university but there has been no reply from their side. Furthermore, I am still receiving wrong subject answer sheets.”

Initially, MU made its admission and results procedure online. Later in early April this year, MU announced it was going digital, leaving behind the old pen and paper method of correction.

Reportedly, it takes around eight minutes to assess one paper digitally but because of technical glitches it takes around 20 to 25 minutes. Earlier, a single teacher used to correct four bundles of answer papers. Every bundle has 50 papers, which is 200 answer sheets in a single day i.e., from 10 am to 5 pm. However in the digital system, only three papers are assessed in an hour, which in total is 25 papers on average in a single day.

Earlier this week the teachers and the students held a protest outside the varsity’s Fort campus against the new On-Screen Marking process, which is affecting them tragically.

Even after all these, the university is positive about declaring all the results on July 31.
